Flexible solution supports mandate for unique health identifiers Columbus, OH, November 11, 2005 – Foresight Corporation, leading provider of business process applications, announced today the availability of DataSwapper™, a solution that enables healthcare payers and providers to efficiently convert from traditional non-standard provider IDs to the proposed National Provider Identification (NPI) numbers within the production transaction flow. “Foresight has moved aggressively to address the NPI mandate because of its enormous impact on our customers,” stated Ed Hafner, CTO of Foresight. “DataSwapper is unique in that it is designed to enable our customers to adopt NPI at a rate that matches its adoption by their trading partners.” In May, the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) deployed a standard unique health identifier program for the nation’s healthcare providers in response to a Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) mandate. This program replaces proprietary provider ID numbers (which link providers to their identities such as name, tax ID, hospital affiliation, etc.) with a 10-digit identifier that is accommodated in all standard transactions and contains no imbedded information about the provider. Foresight’s DataSwapper, new to the InStream module of its Transaction Insight® Automation System, enables healthcare payers to substitute their existing provider identification numbers to/from the NPI numbers automatically with both application- and web-based look-up options. The DataSwapper solution is flexible and can be used to automate a variety of tasks such as corrections of coding errors and transaction routines. All data element conversions are logged to enable audit and tracking.
